A Letter from our Director Jeffery Olson

Welcome back from the holiday break. I sincerely hope you had an opportunity to read at least one good book and are ready for another successful semester. DLIS is welcoming fourteen new students into the program this semester. I hope they are finding their coursework intriguing and interesting and already feeling at home within the DLIS community.

On November 7th from 6:30 to 8:30 the New York City Municipal Archive and St. John’s University will host a cocktail reception to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of St. John’s Library and Information Science program. There will be tours of the archives special collections. Please save the date. You will receive more information in the future.

The time is approaching to make plans for summer. In addition to courses, we are pleased to offer a study abroad program in Rome with Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science. It is also a good time to complete an internship. Continue to review the emails from our list-serve and look for great opportunities. Consider service opportunities as well… SLA and PLG student groups offer opportunities for networking, service, and sharing interests.

Once again, we hope you have a great semester. Do not forget to reach out for support from the DLIS staff, faculty, and graduate assistants and share your feedback about the program. We are here for you and want you to reach your potential serving society as a librarian or other information professional.
