A Word from the Director

To Our Esteemed Alumni,

I know I speak for all the DLIS faculty and staff when I say we are so proud of each of you and all that you have accomplished. You are part of a select and distinguished community of people who have received a degree from the Division of Library and Information Science at St. John’s University. As a group, you continue to make important and noteworthy contributions within the field of librarianship. Your accomplishments know no border, as you work in States around the nation and in countries around the world. You continue to be leaders in our field by pioneering innovative ideas in the world of information science, presenting papers and leading discussions within our professional organizations, and elevating the profession as a whole by your everyday work. You should be just as proud of yourselves as I am of you.

By establishing yourselves as leaders in the field, you are working towards changing the stereotypical image of who librarians are and what they do. In this newsletter, you will learn more about some of your colleagues and how the work they are doing defies stereotypes and preconceived notions.

Whether you left our program a month, a year, or several years ago, you are still a vital and important part of the DLIS program here at St. John’s. As Director of the DLIS, I am committed to ensuring that your connection with our school is one that lasts a lifetime, and provides benefits both to you as well as to our program and its future graduates. As part of working towards those goals, we encourage you to remain involved with our program in many ways; please read on to find out more about some of these ways, as well as to find out what some of your colleagues are accomplishing.

I am looking forward to a long and valuable relationship with you, and I intend to do my best to honor your continued involvement with our program and all of its faculty, staff, and students.

I wish you much health, happiness, and success in the future.
