Student Involvement on Campus: Library Workshops

20140422_110033St. John’s LIS students are encouraged to actively engage with the library community through volunteering and participating in library-sponsored events and programs.  DLIS student Anastasia Chiu recently led a St. John’s Library workshop entitled, “UN Databases for Research”.

Chiu led the audience through a series of online databases available through the United Nations.  An interactive workshop, Chiu called on volunteers from the audience to engage in an active-learning process of locating and finding example documents in the appropriate locations.  She also instructed her audience on who and how to ask for research aid on UN Documents.

The databases presented were the UN Official Document System, the UN Treaty Collection, UNBISnet and UN-I-QUE.  In answering questions from the audience, we were also treated to a few other unique UN databases.  Chiu also brought to the audience’s attention that St. John’s Library is a UN Depository Library, and supplied contact information for our depository librarian, Ms. Rosemary LaSala.
