Welcome New Students!

DLIS welcomed a new group of students to the field of Library Science at this fall’s orientation meeting. Arriving prior to continuing students, the newcomers picked up laptops and received identification cards in preparation of joining the graduate student body here at St. John’s.   After introductory course discussions and a light dinner, I took the opportunity to meet some of these new students.

Jimmy is from Oakdale, NY and one of our few new students coming to the program with an undecided mind to mold. Jimmy hopes to discover his true passion during his education, leading to a decent job upon graduation.

Alana joins the program from Kingston, NY. After receiving her BA in history, she realized her enthusiasm for research. Ultimately Alana wants to fine-tune her research skills in a archival setting.

A Brooklyn resident, Crystal joins the program with an open mind. She is considering an archives track, as it seems quite and interesting field in her opinion.

Jannette joins us from Manhattan to pursue a career in law librarianship. She is confident in starting at St. John’s, saying everyone seems so nice there’s nothing to be afraid of here.
